Who Is G-Dragon?
G-Dragon, born Kwon Ji-yong (with “Kwon” meaning “dragon” in Korean), was born on August 18, 1988, in Seoul, South Korea. His journey to stardom began early, joining the kids’ musical group Little Roo’Ra at age six, though the group disbanded shortly after. He later trained under SM Entertainment from ages 8 to 13 before leaving to pursue his dream of becoming a rapper at YG Entertainment.
At YG, G-Dragon started humbly, cleaning studios and fetching water during dance practices. His perseverance paid off, and in 2006, he debuted with BIGBANG alongside four other members. The group rapidly rose to fame with hits like “Haru Haru,” “Lies,” and “Last Farewell,” many of which were written and produced by G-Dragon himself. He launched his highly successful solo career in 2010.
