After administering a direct shot to the head of Philadelphia Flyers center Ryan Poehling, New York Islanders forward Maxim Tsyplakov is scheduled for a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Friday.
The incident took place at 8:14 of the first period during the Islanders' 5-3 loss at UBS Arena where Tsyplakov cut in front of Poehling while the latter was moving in net-front for a shot and clipped his head with the left shoulder.
Poehling suffered an upper-body injury on the play and did not return to the game.
Tsyplakov was not penalized at the time upon video review.
The non-call on the play left Flyers coach John Tortorella, who is notoriously known for wearing his emotions on his sleeve, enraged.

Several Flyers took the liberty of targeting Tsyplakov for the rest of the game. Defenseman Scott Laughton was fined $5,000 for an illegal cross-check on Tsyplakov, which is the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
The Department of Player Safety is considering supplemental discipline for an illegal check to the head, though they reserve the right to modify the infraction after further review.

The Flyers got the final say after the exchange of attacks with a 5-3 victory, pushing their point streak to four games.
"I think we have to be disappointed in the result tonight," Islanders forward Bo Horvat said. "We did some good things, but we also did some bad things that cost us. If you want to be consistently winning in this league, playing against a rival like this, we have to be a lot better than we were tonight."
Philadelphia flipped a 1-0 deficit after the first intermission into a 3-1 lead by the second intermission.
Sean Couturier, Garnet Hathaway, Morgan Frost, Cam York, and Noah Cates all found the back of the net for the Flyers. Hathaway scored a go-ahead shorthanded goal in the second period, while Cates sealed the game with an empty-netter in the third.
Travis Konecny recorded three assists, and after sitting out three consecutive games and Joel Farabee made a strong return with two assists.
Tsyplakov, a 26-year-old rookie, has recorded 19 points (seven goals, 12 assists) and accumulated 26 penalty minutes in 44 games.
Laughton, 30, has recorded 23 points (nine goals, 14 assists) and 14 penalty minutes across 46 games this season.
