The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully achieved a milestone by launching its 100th satellite dubbed GSLV-F15 which carried the NVS-02 satellite. The NVS-02 satellite has been launched as part of India’s Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC).  The GSLV-F15 launched from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh at 6:23 am. The mission was led by the space agency’s Chairman V Narayanan, which was also his first mission after assuming office recently. Additionally, it is ISRO’s maiden venture this year.

The launch of the GSLV-F15 mission with NVS-02 is a landmark achievement for ISRO as it showcases India’s growing prowess in rocket technology. The agency is making an advancement in space-based navigation capabilities. Chairman V Narayanan mentions the successful launch of the rocket in his address speech. He said, “precisely injected into the required (GTO) orbit. This mission is the 100th launch which is a very significant milestone. In this mission, the data has come; all vehicle systems are normal.”

The GSLV-F15 carrying the NVS-02 satellite launch was one of the most essential launches for ISRO as it demonstrates India’s remarkable progress in space exploration since its first launch in 1979. S. Unnikrishnan Nair, Director of India’s main rocket lab the Vikram Sarabhai Space Center said, “It is as robust as the previous one. Like any other launch. We make every launch robust to the best of our ability. It will be successful.”

The full form of GSLV F15 is a Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle which is a successor to the GSLV-F12. To recall, the GSLV-F12 successfully deployed the NVS 01 in 2023. It was the first satellite in the second generation series. The GSLV F15 will place the NVS-02 satellite into the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit. It will be done after the 19 minutes of the launch. The satellite weighs nearly 2,000 kg.
