James May, 61, has spoken about planning a reunion with his The Grand Tour buddies after the show came to a sudden end.
Top Gear star James, along with his long-time co-presenters Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson, gutted fans after saying an emotional goodbye to The Grand Tour in September. Despite the sad end of an era, James revealed that it wasn’t an end for the trio for good.
“I’ve spoken to them a few times and I suspect we’ll go out for a beer somewhere,” he told Radio Times. James added that unlike past meetings, which were based around work, their next reunion could be more relaxed. "Just because we can, not because we have to come up with some gags, plan a road trip or choose some cars, but for the hell of it. It’d be quite interesting,” he explained.
James recently spoke about how he felt after leaving The Grand Tour behind, and admitted that he wasn’t as upset as many fans are. Speaking at Market Place Vauxhall - where his limited-edition James Gin was on display - he said: "Nothing will ever be as big as Top Gear and The Grand Tour were, so I'm not full of woe and regret.

One or two of us are on the brink of death, and I hope we left on a high note with people wanting more, because that's what you're supposed to do in show business. So, I'm not depressed about it. It's a time for reflection, a reflection usually leads to another gin."
With the Top Gear universe come to an end, the boys have all branched out away from the car world. James admitted how surprised he was that Jeremy's solo project, Clarkson's Farm, was still running. "He's deeply afraid of anything physical or manual,” he joked, adding, “It's given him a new purpose, which he possibly needed.
“Maybe it’s a big moment for all of us. We've paused to think about who we really are, he shared. James’ own ventures have taken him to present the travel series, Our Man In..., on Amazon Prime since 2020. However, the show was cancelled this year, and James didn’t hold back in slamming the streaming service for the decision.
"Well Our Man In... is actually finished, they don't want any more of that, so I won't be doing that...they just didn't want it anymore, miserable b*****ds,” he said. "But that does take you away from home for a long time, which I wasn't so keen on these days anyway."
Although Our Man In… and The Grand Tour have both been relegated to the history books, James now has plenty more on his plate. He’s now working on the show James May and the Dull Men, based on the Facebook group Dull Men’s Club.
