Actor Jamie Foxx has opened up about his previously mysterious health issues, which he says were caused by a brain bleed prompted by a stroke.
Foxx made the comments in the new Netflix special called “Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was.”
“It is a mystery,” he said on the show. “We still don’t know exactly what happened to me.” Foxx ended up in the hospital in April 2023, CNN reported, labeling his medical issues as “undisclosed” at that time.
“April 11, I was having a bad headache and I asked my boy for an aspirin. And I realized quickly that when you’re in a medical emergency, your boys don’t know what the (expletive) to do,” he said.
“Before I could get the aspirin I went out,” Foxx said. “I don’t remember 20 days.”

Foxx said on the special that doctors told him, “It’s going to be the worst year of his life.”
Foxx said that he stayed out of public for some time because he felt “dizzy” and didn’t want people to misinterpret his behavior as something else.
Foxx posted a video discussing the special to Instagram, writing, “Personal thank you are in order. Just want to jump on and say thank you to everybody that prayed and now you get a chance to hear what it really was it’s a blessing to be in the position that I’m in to be able to tell you my story in my way, so please go to Netflix right now And check out my special ‘what had happened was.’ I hope the jokes make you laugh and I hope the story inspires you… It’s been a hell of a journey.”
Jamie Foxx Praised His Sister for Rushing HIm to the Hospital
In the special, Foxx praised his sister Deidra Dixon for rushing him to the hospital.
“What they told me was they took me to the first doctor and they gave me a cortisone shot and sent me home. I don’t know if you can do Yelps for doctors but that’s half a star. My sister said ‘No’. Four foot eleven, and full of nothing but love, she said something’s wrong with my brother,” he said in the special.
Added Foxx, “They took me into operate on me . . . your life doesn’t flash before your face, it was oddly peaceful.”
“When I woke up I found myself in a wheelchair, I couldn’t walk. Jamie Foxx don’t get strokes,” Foxx recalled.
