Jamie Foxx is breaking his silence behind the mysterious medical emergency that left him hospitalized earlier this year.

The actor, comedian, and multi-talented star will reveal the full details of his health scare in his forthcoming Netflix comedy special, What Had Happened Was…, set to release on Dec. 10.

On Thursday (Dec. 5), Netflix dropped the trailer for the highly anticipated performance, filmed in Atlanta this past October, marking his first time speaking in-depth about the medical event that shocked fans worldwide.

In the trailer, a series of voiceovers and news headlines hint at speculation surrounding Foxx’s health, culminating in Foxx walking out onstage to an enthusiastic crowd. With a grin and a triumphant tone, he exclaims, “I’m back!” before expressing his gratitude to be there.

“I’m so glad to see y’all here. I’m so glad to be here,” Foxx says, setting the tone for a deeply personal and emotional performance. The trailer concludes with Foxx revealing the theme of the special, giving audiences a glimpse into his recovery journey.

In April 2023, Foxx was hospitalized after experiencing a serious medical complication that led to a coma-like state. For several days, there was little information about his condition, leaving fans anxious and speculating about the cause of the health crisis.

Foxx’s daughter later confirmed that he had become “awake and alert” after the hospitalization, providing a much-needed sigh of relief for his followers.

Though Foxx has addressed the incident on several occasions since, the exact cause of his medical emergency has remained private. In August 2023, Foxx shared that he had just begun to feel like himself again, expressing immense gratitude for the support he and his family received during the ordeal.

By December 2023, Foxx made his first public appearance at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Cinema and Television, where he proudly reflected on his recovery. “I couldn’t do that six months ago. I couldn’t actually walk to [the stage],” he said. “It feels good to be here. I cherish every single minute now.”

Foxx’s last comedy special, Jamie Foxx Unleashed: Lost, Stolen and Leaked!, was released in 2003, making this new special a highly awaited return to the stage. What Had Happened Was… is executive produced by Foxx, Marcus King, Datari Turner, James Longman, Raj Kapoor, Katy Mullan, and Hamish Hamilton, who also directs. The production companies behind the special include Foxxhole and Done + Dusted.

With this special, Foxx is set to not only entertain but also offer his fans a glimpse into the most challenging chapter of his life—proving once again that his resilience and sense of humor are as sharp as ever.
