Attention all breakfast enthusiasts.... culinary maestro Jamie Oliver has dropped some game-changing advice for elevating your classic poached eggs on toast.
In his YouTube tutorial titled "How to Make Perfect Poached Eggs - Three Ways", Jamie divulges his tricks for nailing "super, silky, gorgeous eggs every time". And the chef's number one rule is simple: "The only way to poach the perfect egg is if you have really, really fresh eggs - end of story."
For those keen on sourcing the freshest eggs, Jamie's got a tip. "When it gets to shopping, don't go to the front, go to the back and get your eggs," he said, revealing that the back of the shelf often hides the freshest eggs. With the finest eggs in hand, Jamie instructs breakfast fans to heat water until bubbling, then remove it from heat to let the bubbles settle, reports the Daily Record.

Jamie suggests cracking the egg into a bowl before gently placing it into the pan, reassuring home chefs: "If you have lovely fresh eggs, you're going to win most of the time."
For those who fancy a "softish egg", the chef recommends boiling them for about three minutes to get that "lovely, fresh, springy mozzarella" texture. Savour your impeccably boiled egg on a magnificent piece of toast. To boost the creaminess of your dish, add a dash of avocado. Or for an inventive spin, top it with some slices of smoked salmon.
Scrambled eggs are the most popular way to prepare them in the UK, followed by fried eggs, omelettes and hardboiled eggs. The preference is regional in nature, with East Midlands the home of the runny egg, also known as a dippy egg. Research in The Grocer published in 2022 revealed most of us eat between one and three eggs a week, with consumption on the up. "During the pandemic sales rose dramatically, as people spent more time at home," said British Egg Industry Council chairman Andrew Joret.
"Sales have since settled down but increasing egg consumption remains the long-term trend with sales continuing to grow on pre-pandemic levels." When it comes to the globe, eggs are consumed in a variety of ways. Egg salad, which sees hardboiled eggs mixed with mayonnaise, mustard and spices is a popular dish in the US while Datemaki, sweet, fluffy, unusually shaped omelettes, are big in Japan. Portuguese egg tarts, or pastel de nata, are a staple treat in Portugal.
