Jason Kelce is experiencing an unexpected triumph as his duet with Stevie Nicks, "Maybe This Christmas," has jumped past Mariah Carey's iconic "All I Want for Christmas Is You" on the charts. This surprising momentary victory has humorously crowned Kelce as the "Queen of Christmas," a title usually reserved for Carey, whose song has become a holiday anthem.
During a recent "New Heights" podcast episode, Jason discussed his holiday song's sudden rise. His brother Travis proudly highlighted that Jason and his group, The Philly Specials, have, at least for now, overtaken Mariah's iconic track in popularity.
The new Queen of Christmas
The duet with Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks, Jason admits, feels like a surprising achievement. Despite the early lead, he doesn't expect his song to hold the top position as the season progresses, pointing out that Mariah's song has a dedicated fan base that keeps it at the top year after year.
"You know, I've fought my whole life to be the Queen of Christmas and the fact that we're finally there... it's just really special," Jason said.
"I know we caught it in early November. We'll see if it holds up throughout the rest of Christmas.
"We kind of caught it on the Christmas downslide. Not too many people are listening to Christmas music, so we jumped up in there.
"I'll take it where I can get it. It's pretty amazing."
Jason didn't hold back his humor about his singing abilities, suggesting no song featuring his voice should claim the top spot. Travis joined in, joking that listeners are undoubtedly tuning in more for Stevie Nicks than for Jason himself. Jason's humility and humor reflect just how unexpected this holiday hit was for him.
Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" has become a staple of holiday music since its release in 1994, even setting streaming records each holiday season.
