Jason Momoa was the star of the "Aquaman" films in the DC Universe, but that is no longer going to be the case for the famed actor. Instead, he has officially been recast as a villain that fans have been begging for since James Gunn took the reins.

According to a report from Deadline, Momoa will return to DC as Lobo. He has been cast in the role for the upcoming "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" film. The entry in the Gunn-led DCU has a release date of June 26, 2026.
Fans have been calling for Momoa to be cast as Lobo for months. Now, that wish has been granted. The man himself discussed the possibility of being considered for the role in a quote that he posted on his personal Instagram page.
"I collect comics, and I don't do so much anymore, but was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I'm like, 'Hello? It's the perfect role,'" said the actor. Momoa went on to say that should DC come around asking him to play Lobo, it would be "a f*** yeah." Alongside the Instagram screenshot, Momoa posted a caption this morning that reads, "They called."
Momoa has emerged as one of the biggest actors in the world, dating back to his time on "Game of Thrones." Following his breakout performance, he would find his way to star in blockbuster hits like "Dune," "Aquaman," and "Fast X."
Though his recast likely means the world of "Aquaman" is done, he is moving on to a role that could theoretically last for a long time in the DCU.
Lobo is a space alien and bounty hunter created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen. The character first appeared in "Omega Men #3" (June 1983). Lobo would emerge as a massive fan-favorite character in DC comics, often going toe-to-toe with Superman through the years.

It is a bit strange that Lobo would make his debut in the Supergirl movie as opposed to "Superman," which is set for release on July 11, 2025. That doesn't mean Lobo won't show up, but that could be a possibility.
Either way, fans are now going to get a chance to finally see Momoa as arguably one of the best villains the DC franchise has to offer. Now, it will be interesting to see where Lobo goes and appears within the grand scheme of the DCU.
