Jennifer Aniston is remembering her friend Matthew Perry with sweet throwback photos on the one-year anniversary of his death.

The Morning Show star, 55, took to Instagram on Monday, October 28, with four images of the late Friends star. In the first photo, Matthew had his arm around Jennifer’s shoulder as they shared a snack. The second snap was from Friends and showed the Fools Rush In actor planting a kiss on Jennifer’s forehead. In the third photo, Jennifer and Matthew formed a group hug with Friends costars David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and Courteney Cox. Finally, the fourth photo was a solo shot of Matthew flashing a sweet smile at the camera.

“1 year,” Jennifer captioned the post with bandaged heart and dove emojis, tagging the Matthew Perry Foundation. The organization was established in November 2023, less than one week after Matthew’s death, to fulfill the actor’s wish of helping others who are struggling with addiction.

Several fans and friends commented on the post with words of support and love. The official Friends account added three white heart emojis.

“Jen Ani, He became a beautiful angel and is watching over you! He loved you very much,” one user added.

“Matty will always have his Jenny’s love,” another fan wrote, while a third person commented, “Still so hard to believe.”

“He is so deeply missed. Forever with us. Sending love,” a fourth fan commented.

Matthew died at 54 years old on October 28, 2023. He was found unresponsive in the hot tub at his Pacific Palisades home after an apparent drowning. However, the Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing author’s cause of death was later determined as the “acute effects of ketamine.” He had been receiving ketamine infusion therapy to treat anxiety and depression, but his last treatment had been a week and a half before his death.

An investigation into his death found that the ketamine that Matthew ingested prior to his drowning was not legally prescribed by a doctor. This led to the August 15 arrests of Dr. Mark Chavez, Dr. Salvador Plasencia, Erik Fleming, Kenneth Iwamasa and Javeen Sangha, a woman known as “the Ketamine Queen.”

Chavez, 54, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute ketamine on October 2. Iwamasa, 59, and Fleming, 54, also both pleaded guilty in the case. Meanwhile, Sangha, 41, and Plasencia, 42, pleaded not guilty.

Jennifer paid tribute to Matthew following his death in a lengthy Instagram post on November 15, 2023. “Oh boy this one has cut deep … having to say goodbye to our Matty has been an insane wave of emotions that I’ve never experienced before,” she wrote. “We all experience loss at some point in our lives. Loss of life or loss of love. Being able to really SIT in this grief allows you to feel the moments of joy and gratitude for having loved someone that deep. And we loved him deeply. He was such a part of our DNA. We were always the 6 of us.”

She continued, “This was a chosen family that forever changed the course of who we were and what our path was going to be. For Matty, he KNEW he loved to make people laugh. As he said himself, if he didn’t hear the ‘laugh’ he thought he was going to die. His life literally depended on it. And boy did he succeed in doing just that. He made all of us laugh. And laugh hard. In the last couple weeks, I’ve been pouring over our texts to one another. Laughing and crying then laughing again. I’ll keep them forever and ever.”

Two months after his death, Jennifer recalled texting Matthew on the morning he died and revealed that he had been in good spirits.

“He was happy. He was healthy. He had quit smoking. He was getting in shape. He was happy — that’s all I know,” the Bruce Almighty actress told Variety in December 2023. “I was literally texting with him that morning, funny Matty. He was not in pain. He wasn’t struggling. He was happy.”

She continued, “I want people to know he was really healthy and getting healthy. He was on a pursuit. He worked so hard. He really was dealt a tough one. I miss him dearly. We all do. Boy, he made us laugh really hard.”
