Jennifer Garner may technically be 52 — but she's forever "thirty, flirty, and thriving."
The Golden Globe winner proved just that when she revived her 13 Going on 30 character Jenna Rink for a Halloween costume in a video shared to Instagram on Wednesday, October 30. "Happy 20th Halloween, Jenna Rink. 💕," she captioned the video, which showed her wearing the iconic colorful striped Versace mini dress that grown-up Jenna sports for the Poise Magazine party in the film.
Just like in the 2004 movie, the video is set to the tune of Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance with Somebody," and begins with Garner putting on lip gloss. In a twist on the original, rather than applying glittery eyeshadow, the next step shows the mom of three applying some retinol regenerating cream.
The 2024 video also shows Garner applying her eyeliner while wearing her glasses, and adds in a few more steps that are more relevant for a woman's skincare regimen than the kind of thing a 13-year-old (in a 30-year-old's body) would be worried about.
In a continued bit playing on the time that has passed since 2004, rather than dancing through her closet and making heart eyes at a wall of shoes — like Jenna did — Garner can be seen looking a bit uncertain as she checks out some shapewear she's about to don in order to wear the dress.
Garner skips the updo, opting to wear her hair down and straight, and also trades Jenna's strappy heels for a pair of bright pink sneakers. However, she is noticeably sporting the same bedazzled butterfly necklace from the film, and still embodies the joy of young Jenna when she twirls to show off her finished look.
Fans got a kick out of the throwback, flooding Garner's comments with praise. "Iconic!!!💖 Nobody rocks the Jenna butterfly necklace like you. So happy we could get the OG pieces to you 🦋🦋✨✨," Tarina Tarantino Jewelers commented.
Others made references to the film, with one posting, "Thirty, Flirty, and Thriving❤️❤️❤️❤️," while another joked they hoped Garner had Razzles in her purse — referring to the candy Jenna and Matty Flamhaff bond over in the movie.
Media personality Perez Hilton noted how much Garner clearly loved the character, asking, "Why haven't we gotten a sequel?"
13 Going on 30, from director Gary Winick, also featured Christa B. Allen as young Jenna Rink, as well as stars like Judy Greer, Mark Ruffalo, and Andy Serkis.
