Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck “were never going to get petty” in their divorce, an insider exclusively tells In Touch just two days after the former couple finalized their divorce.
“Jennifer and Ben are officially divorced and the only bright spot is that they were not ugly. Many thought that their lawyers would do the nasty nitpicking on behalf of each of them, but they both decided to leave the marriage as amicably as possible,” the source tells In Touch.
While the insider notes that “there was a lot at stake,” including “the mega mansion in Bel Air, jewelry, cars, furnishings and pricey art they purchased together,” Jennifer, 55, and Ben, 52, were determined to not get nasty during the divorce. “Which is why Jennifer kept her $5 million dollar ring and a few other things,” the source adds of her engagement ring.
“Ben and Jennifer were not about to nickel and dime each other, they respected each other way too much for that,” the insider concludes. “I’m not saying that it never crossed their minds, it just wasn’t worth it. They have too much history together. They actually parted as friends.”
One day after their divorce settlement was revealed, In Touch confirmed that Ben and Jennifer agreed that “irreconcilable differences” were the reason for their marriage ending. According to the documents, the duo said that their differences made it “impossible” for them to live together as husband and wife.
“The Court finds based on the stipulation of the Parties that they desire to make a final and complete settlement of all rights and obligations between the Parties arising out of their marriage, including with respect to the division of all community and quasi-community assets and liabilities, with respect to the confirmation of all separate property assets and liabilities, with respect to a complete and absolute termination of spousal support, with respect to al reimbursement and credit claims and with respect to all other matters as set forth in this Judgment,” the paperwork read.
Jennifer was awarded her jewelry, clothing and other personal effects in the settlement, while she will also keep all of her earnings from the date of separation and half of two City National Bank accounts.
Additionally, the Wedding Planner actress will keep “all right, title and interest in and to any social security benefits and social security derivative rights to which [Jennifer] may be entitled to receive by reason of her past, present or future employment and/or her marriage.”
Meanwhile, Ben was awarded his jewelry, clothing and all of his earnings he made since their agreed on date of separation of April 26, 2024. It was also determined that Ben will keep all rights to his businesses, including the Artists Equity that he launched with Matt Damon in 2022.
The former couple – who filed for divorce after two years of marriage in August 2024 – proved that they’re on good terms when Jennifer was spotted visiting Ben at his California home on January 5, according to photos obtained by the Daily Mail.
