Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson’s Marriage Is ‘Pretty Much Over’ as She Ditches Wedding Ring

Jessica Simpson‘s 10-year marriage to Eric Johnson is heading for divorce, after she stopped wearing her wedding ring and seemingly ignored his birthday.

“It’s pretty much over,” a source tells In Touch exclusively. “It’s only a matter of time before she files for divorce.”

Jessica, 44, and Eric, 45, married on July 5, 2014, at the famed San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California. Prior to tying the knot, the couple welcomed daughter Maxwell Drew on May 1, 2012, followed by son Ace Knute on June 30, 2013. Jessica gave birth to their third child, daughter Birdie Mae, on March 19, 2019.

The “There You Were” singer seemingly snubbed Eric’s birthday on September 15. Not only did Jessica not share a loving Instagram post like she did in 2023, instead she shared an Instagram Stories video clip originally posted by singer Tyrese, showing a preacher saying, “Forgiveness doesn’t change the person who hurt you. Are you listening to me?”

“Forgiveness doesn’t change that person. Forgiveness changes you. Guess what forgiveness does not do?” the clip continued. “Forgiveness does not mean you forget. One of the most crazy theories is that you forgive and forget. You don’t forget, but you do have the opportunity to forgive every time you remember.”

The year prior, Jess shared a series of family photos, writing in the caption, “Eric turned 44 on Sept 15 and his family gave him all the love cells we have to celebrate his life.”

She gushed, “My heart is so taken with this man, I could hardly call it my own … We love youuuu.”

The last time Jessica was seen wearing her diamond band on social media was in a January 11 Instagram post, in a promotional video for Chicken of the Sea tuna. She hasn’t worn it in any posts since then.

The Open Book author’s Valentine’s Day post on February 14 continued to fuel split rumors. Jessica didn’t mention Eric and instead shared a series of vamped-up photos wearing a strapless pink sequin minidress and went without her wedding ring, leaving nothing but a lipstick kiss emoji in the caption.

“When Jessica and Eric are fighting, the ring comes off,” a source exclusively told Life & Style on February 29. “It makes her feel like a fraud wearing her ring if they’re not getting along.”

Eric last appeared on Jessica’s Instagram page in an April 9 post, where he was shown holding Birdie on his shoulders in a family Easter photo while Maxi stood between her parents. The rest of the carousel of snapshots only showed photos of the duo’s children celebrating the holiday in fun photos with their Easter baskets.

In a back-to-school post on September 4, the proud mom gushed about her kids returning to class, posing in several photos with her children in their uniforms while Eric was not present or mentioned.

“Eric has had it with her crazy mood swings,” an insider told Life & Style on October 18. “And Jessica feels like their marriage has lost its romance. Everyone’s wondering how long they can go on like this.”

The insider added that Eric had distanced himself from his wife “for more than a year.”

“Eric has been doing his own thing for longer than anyone seems to know,” shared the source. “He’s been very vocal about how difficult it is to live with someone so obsessed with surgery and so detached from reality most of the time.”
