Jessica Simpson hinted that there’s trouble in paradise for her and husband Eric Johnson by sharing a cryptic social media post amid split rumors.
While teasing her return to music, Jessica, 44, took to Instagram on Monday, November 11, to share photos of herself in her Nashville home. “Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic,” she captioned the snapshot. “This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.”
Shortly after Jessica uploaded the post, several fans rushed to the comments section to wonder if the caption alluded to a possible split between her and Eric, 45. “Is this j simp saying she’s single?” one person asked, while another chimed in, “Yep, called this a while ago. We love you. Stay strong.”
The “I Wanna Love You Forever” singer seemingly alluded to her single status amid speculation that she and Eric are headed for a split. The theories first circulated when fans noticed that she stopped wearing her wedding ring, and Jessica also didn’t post about his September 15 birthday on social media.
Despite not sharing a post in honor of Eric’s birthday, Jessica was active on social media and shared a video of a preacher via her Instagram Stories. “Forgiveness doesn’t change the person who hurt you. Are you listening to me?” the preacher said.
“Forgiveness doesn’t change that person. Forgiveness changes you. Guess what forgiveness does not do?” he continued in the clip. “Forgiveness does not mean you forget. One of the most crazy theories is that you forgive and forget. You don’t forget, but you do have the opportunity to forgive every time you remember.
In light of the rumors, an insider exclusively told In Touch that their marriage was “pretty much over” in October. “It’s only a matter of time before she files for divorce,” the source added.
While Jessica hasn’t publicly addressed the status of her marriage, her sister, Ashlee Simpson, subtly denied the split rumors while speaking to TMZ in a story published on Tuesday, November 12.
“Is it true? Do you know?” Ashlee, 40, was asked about the rumors, and she simply responded, “No.”
Jessica and Eric welcomed baby No. 1, daughter Maxwell Drew, in May 2012 and son Ace Knute in June 2013, and they went on to tie the knot in July 2014. Following their wedding, Jessica and Eric welcomed their third child, daughter Birdie Mae, in March 2019.
On October 31, another insider told Life & Style that their marriage was essentially over. ”Lately, Jessica has been reevaluating her happiness, her marriage and her business empire, and she is ready to start fresh,” the source dished at the time. “It’s pretty much over between her and Eric; it’s only a matter of time before she files for divorce.”
The insider added that Jessica and Eric “tried couples counseling” and it “worked for a while.” However, things eventually “went back to the way they were.”
“They don’t spend nearly as much time together as they used to, and they’ve just grown apart,” the source claimed.
