No sense in exposing top talents to further injury in a meaningless game.

The New York Jets have placed cornerback Sauce Gardner on injured reserve, effectively ending his season, per NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

"The #Jets have placed CB Sauce Gardner on IR, ending his season with one game to go," said Rapoport on X.

Gardner has been nursing a hamstring injury since Week 13, so the two-time first-team All-Pro will put a bow on nothing more than a disappointing third Jets season with 49 tackles and 9 pass defenses in 880 snaps and 15 games.

D.J. Reed, Brandin Echols and Isaiah Oliver are expected to pick up the slack at the cornerback position against the Miami Dolphins.

The Jets have also signed defensive lineman Bruce Hector to the activate roster and have elevated cornerback Tre Swilling and offensive lineman Zack Bailey.

ORCHARD PARK, NEW YORK - DECEMBER 29: Sauce Gardner #1 of the New York Jets looks on during halftime against the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium on December 29, 2024 in Orchard Park, New York....

Gardner shared some interesting remarks after reporters asked him is last week's disgraceful effort to the Buffalo Bills that resulted in a 40-14 loss was embarassing.

"Embarrassing? I don't even know if that's the word," Gardner said.

"You're telling me now it's 40-0? If you ask me that means it's the end of the season, obviously we're not going to the playoffs, some people might be checked out. That's just me going off speculation and what I'm getting at. You know what I'm saying?... We, quote un-quote, enhanced our roster in all areas. That just tells me we can't be playing as a team. We're probably just individuals. Last year, the year before, we had a roster that wasn't as talented as this roster, and we found ways to beat the Bills. We found ways to win. What's stopping that now?"

It was an exclamation mark on a 2024 season has been particularly disastrous for the 4-12 Jets.

The situation worsened in October when the team dismissed head coach Robert Saleh during his fourth year at the helm. Shortly after, the organization also let go of general manager Joe Douglas following a dismal 3-8 record heading into their bye week.

Many unsolved questions surround the organization heading into the offseason with plenty of buzz around Aaron Rodgers' immediate future along with a new head coach and general manager, among other voids.
