Rodgers has come under intense scrutiny from fans and commentators in the last several days, with the Super Bowl winner's lackluster performance in the 2024 season prompting speculation that the team is looking to bench him.

According to NFL insider Dianna Russini, following the Jets' 10-9 loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 4, owner Woody Johnson raised the idea of benching Aaron Rodgers. In a meeting with the coaching staff, Johnson reportedly suggested replacing Rodgers with Tyrod Taylor, expressing concerns that Rodgers' struggles were holding the team back.

The proposal was so surprising that one coach even questioned whether Johnson was serious. Despite the shock, multiple sources confirmed that Johnson appeared genuinely committed to the notion, signaling significant concerns about Rodgers' performance.

This speculation comes in the wake of New York Giants QB Daniel Jones being released, shocking the league. Jones was demoted after consistently underperforming, with New York opting to start Tommy DeVito at quarterback instead. Initially, he was dropped to third on the depth chart, but he was eventually moved to fourth-string quarterback.

The Jets are in a downward spiral with a 3-8 record, and Rodgers is enduring one of the most challenging seasons of his career, with just 17 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. The team's poor performance marks their worst start since 2021, having opened the season 2-6.

After a Week 11 loss to the Indianapolis Colts dropped the Jets to 3-8, the organization made a major move, firing general manager Joe Douglas on November 19 in an effort to turn things around.

Rodgers has dealt with multiple injuries this season, including hamstring, knee, and ankle issues, which have caused him to appear on and off the injury report. However, the extent of his injuries remains unclear. Allegedly Rodgers has been reluctant to undergo full medical evaluations, reportedly out of fear that revealing the severity of his injuries could result in being benched.

One insider shared that Rodgers has resisted getting scans, wanting to avoid exposing the full scope of his injuries. He has been determined to keep playing, despite the risks to his health. Despite all of this, the Jets seem to want to dispel any rumors that they are looking to either demote or release Rodgers and will start him against the 6-5 Seahawks on Sunday.
