John Stamos Slams Critics Over Bald Cap Stunt With Dave Coulier: ‘I’m Not Sorry’

John Stamos clapped back at critics who slammed his bald cap stunt with Full House costar Dave Coulier.

Four days after Dave, 65, announced he had been diagnosed with Stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma, John, 61, showed his support by taking to Instagram on Monday, November 18, to share a photo of the former costars smiling while bald.

In light of the backlash, John broke his silence and slammed his critics while speaking to TMZ on Thursday, November 21. “I flew across the country to be with my brother, right?” he told the outlet about how the photo came to be.

While on the plane ride to see Dave, John said that he got a text revealing that his best friend since he was 11 years old, Mike Owen, had died from a heart attack. Despite being devastated by the loss, John said he was determined to not “show that to Dave.”

“I told him, but I said that’s done, and cried privately,” he added.

Once he met up with Dave, John said that they “laughed so freaking hard” at the bald cap joke. “He wanted me to come shave his head. I knew before, so I brought the bald cap from the studio,” the Scream Queens actor explained.

After noting that he is starring on a new show and isn’t allowed to cut his hair, John directly reacted to the critics that slammed him for the bald cap gesture. “Regardless, I’m so shocked. First I’ll say, I’m just embarrassed and they’re embarrassing,” he said.

“But when I started seeing this blowback, I’m just like, ‘What?’ I couldn’t figure it out. I still don’t know 100 percent,” John continued. “What they should be doing instead of making silly little videos, or doing comments — they should call their doctor, make an appointment. I think that’s the whole point of this. It’s been Dave’s message.”

While John admitted that he was confused by the backlash, he said that he’s trying to not pay attention to it and doesn’t “look at stuff [online].”

“I swear most of the time I don’t, but this one really hurt me mainly because I didn’t understand it,” he told the outlet. “But the point is that I’m embarrassed for people that they waste time on this when all I was doing was cheering up a friend, and I’m sorry — I started to say ‘I’m sorry,’ I’m not sorry,” he concluded.

In addition to a selfie of Dave and John smiling with their bald heads, the ER star also posted a photo of the Family Holiday actor’s head being shaved.

“Nothing like throwing on a bald cap and flexing some Photoshop skills to show some love and solidarity with my bro @dcoulier You’re handling this with so much strength and positivity—it’s inspiring,” John captioned the photo, insisting that he did not shave his iconic hair for the snapshot. “I know you’re going to get through this, and I’m proud to stand with you every step of the way. I love you.”

Shortly after John shared the photo, several social media users took to the comments section to slam him for wearing the bald cap. “[This] seems a little distasteful,” one person wrote, and another added, “This is so pathetic. Like, your hair is more important than solidarity but you want to perform like you care.”
