The mother of rapper Julio Foolio said she is "forever grateful" after the fifth suspect in her son's killing was arrested on Monday.
"I'm thankful for the capture of 5 suspects that had involvement with the murder of my son Charles Jones II. I never once did not believe that those responsible wouldn't be caught," Sandrikas Mays said in a statement obtained by Florida news station Action News Jax.
The Context
Julio Foolio, whose real name is Charles Jones, was fatally shot while celebrating his 26th birthday in Tampa in June 2024.
One month later, law enforcement officials held a press conference to announce the arrests of Sean A. Gathright, Alicia L. Andrews and Isaiah J. Chance on charges related to the killing, including premeditated first-degree murder with a firearm.
At the press conference, officials said Rashad Murphy and Davion Murphy were wanted for murder. Rashad was arrested less than 24 hours later, while Davion remained on the run for nearly six months.
What To Know
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office SWAT Team, along with the Gang Unit and U.S. Marshals Service, arrested Davion at an apartment on Labelle Street on Monday.
Detectives interviewed Davion, 27, then booked him into the Duval County Pre-Trial Detention Facility, the sheriff's office said on X, formerly Twitter.
Davion appeared in court on Tuesday, where he was denied bond. He is expected to be brought to Hillsborough County to face charges.
Officials said the five suspects traveled from Jacksonville to Tampa to carry out the fatal shooting.
Surveillance footage of the incident showed three shooters firing at Jones' vehicle in the parking lot of a hotel. Police said Gathright, Rashad and Davion were the shooters, while the other two suspects tracked Jones' movements.
According to officials, the suspects were members of or associated with two gangs, the ATK and the 1200. Both groups are rival gangs of the Six Block gang, which Jones was a part of.
What People Are Saying
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Director of Investigations and Homeland Security Mark Romano, on X: "This arrest highlights our commitment and perseverance to solving this murder. While it took some time, JSO and partners worked daily to hold these individuals accountable."
What Happens Next
Andrews' trial is scheduled to begin on August 18. It was initially set for January 6 but was delayed three days before the start date.
Gathright, Chance and Rashad are scheduled for trial in April 2026. In October, prosecutors announced they intended to seek the death penalty for the three suspects if they are convicted. Andrews was not named in the notice filed by the state.
