Social media users have interpreted a selfie posted by Justin Bieber as a response to the news of his former girlfriend's engagement.
The "Peaches" singer and Selena Gomez dated in their teens. Now in their 30s, Bieber is married to model Hailey Bieber, and Gomez recently became engaged to music producer Benny Blanco.
On Tuesday, Bieber posted a selfie on Instagram of his wife kissing him, and his song choice raised a few eyebrows.
Lizzy McAlpine's "All My Ghosts," a song about trying to move on from a former lover, accompanied the post. Instagram users said in the comments section that Bieber was trying to send Gomez a message with the song choice.
Newsweek contacted Bieber's representatives for comment by email outside normal business hours.
"But why that song," one user wrote, while another added, "We know why you posted this."
"Guys listen to that song well and you will know Justin is trying to give sel a message," a user commented.
"He's like dam I got married had a kid but her engagement hurt like a stab in the heart. That's crazy it's all in his eyes," another said.

Bieber and Gomez were introduced by their managers in 2009 and began an on-again, off-again relationship that lasted almost 10 years.
"When stuff would happen, I would lose my freakin' mind, and she would lose her mind, and we would fight so hard because we were so invested in each other," Bieber told Complex magazine in 2015. "Love is a choice. Love is not a feeling."

The pair officially called it quits in 2018, and months later, Bieber began dating his now-wife.
Gomez said the breakup with Bieber was the "best thing" to ever happen to her.
"I feel like I had to go through the worst possible heartbreak ever, and then just forgetting everything at the drop of the hand, it was really confusing," Gomez said in her Apple TV+ documentary, My Mind & Me. "But I just think that needed to happen, and ultimately, it was the best thing that ever happened to me."

Bieber married Hailey Baldwin in a civil ceremony in September 2018. The couple had a wedding in South Carolina the following year, on September 30, 2019.
