A new trailer for Christmas spy thriller Black Doves reveals Keira Knightley’s secret lover, whose assassination by a long-range sniper alongside London’s Thames River sends her and fellow spy Ben Whishaw on a mission to find his killer.
The second and final look at the Netflix series introduces Jason Davies, played by Andrew Koji, who Helen Webb (Knightley), a dedicated wife and mother and professional spy, met by accident before their affair.
Amid flashbacks of Webb and Davies in passionate embraces and in bed together, Knightley’s character risks her covert identity working with Black Dove, a private espionage company, being exposed as she sets out to avenge his death.
“I want to find the person who killed Jason,” Webb tells old friend Sam Young, played by Whishaw, who is a Champagne-drinking former assassin. “I know you do. That’s what’s worrying everyone,” Young replies in the trailer, as Webb loads a gun for a revenge quest that lands the duo deeper into a looming geopolitical conspiracy.
The thriller is set during Christmas in London and ultimately has Webb and Young coming to terms with moral choices they made over the years as their pasts catch up with them. Sarah Lancashire, Luther Ford, Tracey Ullman, Kathryn Hunter and Omari Douglas round out the cast.
Joe Barton (Giri/Haji, The Lazarus Project) created, wrote and executive produces Black Doves. Season one debuts Dec. 5, and Netflix has already ordered a second season of the show ahead of its premiere.
The Sister and Noisy Bear series is also executive produced by Jane Featherstone, Chris Fry and Knightley, with Harry Munday producing. The series is directed by Alex Gabassi (The Crown) and Lisa Gunning (The Power).
