LeBron James and his son, Bronny, won't be the only famous father-son duo at the season-opening game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves.
Ken Griffey Jr., half of baseball's last active father-son duo, said last summer that he wanted to attend the Lakers-Timberwolves tipoff with his namesake father.
According to a report Sunday, Griffey intends to follow through on his words. Former Washington Nationals and Cincinnati Reds general manager Jim Bowden, now with MLB Network on SiriusXM, relays that the Griffeys will be at the game Tuesday in Los Angeles.
"Ken Griffey Jr. and Ken Griffey Sr will be in attendance for the LA Lakers opening game on Tues night to watch LeBron & Bronny James make their historic father/son debut with Jr saying: 'We made history in the #MLB & now we get to watch history in the #NBA' #Lakers #LeBron," Bowden wrote on Twitter/X.
LeBron and Bronny James are poised to join a select group of fathers and sons who have played simultaneously at their sport's highest level in North America, including the Griffeys and hockey great Gordie Howe with his sons, Marty and Mark.
Ken Griffey Jr. was selected by the Seattle Mariners with the first overall pick in the 1987 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut with the Mariners in 1989 at just 19 years old, quickly becoming a star with his combination of power, speed, and charismatic play.

In 1990, Griffey Sr., a former All-Star himself, joined the Mariners after a successful career with the Cincinnati Reds. Their time as teammates marked a unique moment in baseball history.
The duo shared the field during the 1990 and 1991 seasons, creating memorable moments along the way — including Griffey Jr.'s first home run in 1990, which his father witnessed from the dugout.
Ken Griffey Sr. played his final game with the Mariners on Oct. 3, 1991. This marked the end of their time together on the field, but the legacy of both Griffeys continued to resonate in baseball and beyond.
LeBron James, 39, is about to begin his record-tying 22nd season in the NBA, Bronny, 20, was drafted by the Lakers this summer.
The pair already made history on Oct. 6 when they played together for the first time during the Los Angeles Lakers' preseason game against the Phoenix Suns. LeBron and Bronny are the first father and son to play in the same NBA game, let alone on the same team.
