Kourtney Kardashian's husband scored family reality show years before KUWTK

Kourtney Kardashian’s husband, Travis Barker, scored a family reality show in 2004. That was three years before Keeping Up With The Kardashians hit TV screens, and continued its span of over 20 years.

One of the most public celebrity couples on the scene, Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker made their relationship official in January 2021, after months of rumors – and they’ve both been huge reality stars.

Travis Barker starred in own family show

Travis Barker was given his own family reality show in 2004, Meet The Barkers, with then-wife Shanna Moakler. The MTV series followed the couple and their two children, Alabama and Landon Barker.

Moakler and Oscar De La Hoya’s daughter, Atiana Cecilia De La Hoya, also appeared on the show. Meet the Barkers lasted two seasons, airing 16 episodes. Barker later filed for divorce after the series finale.

Their divorce was finalized in 2008, the same year MuchMusic started airing Meet the Barkers after Barker’s involvement with the 2008 South Carolina Learjet 60 plane crash.

Meet The Barkers featured everything from the family’s moving day in episode 1, to Barker’s Bachelor party in 2005. Then for season 2, they showed off their $10K Christmas tree and Christmas in Alabama.

Their daughter, Alabama, was born during season 2 and was shown in the final ep. Despite the Barkers celebrating Christmas with Alabama, scenes involving the then-newborn were filmed in early 2006.

KUWTK began airing in 2007

Keeping Up With The Kardashians was born just one year before Meet The Barkers ended. The 20-season show aired on the E! network between 2007 and 2021, where the family were “famous for being famous”.

The series was so popular that eight spin-off shows were made, such as Kourtney and Kim Take Miami, Kourtney and Kim Take New York, Khloé & Lamar, and Kourtney and Khloé Take The Hamptons.

Other spin-off shows were Dash Dolls, Rob & Chyna, Life of Kylie, and Flip It Like Disick, mainly because KUWTK attracted high viewership ratings, becoming one of the network’s most successful shows.

Then even when KUWTK ended, Hulu took on the reigns for The Kardashians. It premiered in 2022 and has already been renewed for seasons 6 and 7, thanks to its huge success.

In November 2023, during Disney’s earnings call, CEO Bob Iger revealed it was the most-watched unscripted series in Hulu history, and had numbers tripled by the fifth season premiere.

Although Travis was a reality star years before Kourtney’s fame, she had a more successful stint in the industry. The two are both so successful, what with Barker’s Blink 182 fame, that there’s no competition
