Kylie Cantrall says the sequel to Descendants: Rise of Red is closer than you think!
“I will say that I will be making a trip back to Wonderland very soon,” the actress behind Red told J-14. “Time travel’s messy, so I’m sure that we’re gonna have to do some cleanup — and some new fun characters are gonna be joining as well.”
On top of that, she said both Red and Chloe (played by Malia Baker) will be back “to their shenanigans” and fans will have to “wait and see what happens.”
ICYMI, Descendants: The Rise of Red follows Red, the Queen of Hearts’ feisty daughter, and Chloe, Cinderella’s by-the-book daughter, as they race to stop an event in the past that could spell disaster for Auradon. But just when things seem tied up, the film ends with Uma (China Anne McClain) cryptically warning, “You didn’t think that was the end of the story, did you?”
So far, Disney has yet to announce details on the sequel, however, the cast hasn’t been shy on giving out spoilers.
“My fan base [are] always like, ‘bro, Kylie’s literally the Tom Holland of Descendants ’cause she’s always revealing things’,” she laughed, before adding, “So, I gotta watch what I say, girl.”
The Descendants franchise is no stranger to massive success, but The Rise of Red managed to capture an even broader audience—including older fans. “I expected it to do well because Descendants was like my Super Bowl as a kid,” Kylie shared. “The first one came out when I was nine, and it was all the rage in fourth grade. But it definitely blew my expectations away.”
Kylie was especially surprised by the film’s impact on older viewers. “I’ve been stopped by 17- and 18-year-olds at the mall being like, ‘Oh, we love Descendants.’ That was really cool to see — it seems like there’s something for everybody in this movie.”
In 2025, Kylie will embark on her first-ever tour — a joint Descendants/ZOMBIES extravaganza that promises to bring the magic of Disney Channel to arenas across the country. “It’s insane that my first tour is 43 cities in arenas,” Kylie gushed.
The show will feature iconic songs from both franchises, including exciting medleys and crossover performances. “Hearing different characters sing each other’s songs? That’s gonna be so cool for the fans,” Kylie teased. Plus, there will be a segment of her original music in the lineup. “I’m very excited for people to see that side of me, too,” she added.
Speaking of original music, Kylie’s latest single, “Boy for a Day,” dropped earlier this month, giving fans a glimpse into her own sound and artistry. “She literally is my baby,” Kylie said of the song. “With every song I put out, it’s always a mix of excitement and nerves. You’ve worked so hard on it, and then you’re like, ‘I hope people love her as much as I do.’”
Luckily, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. “It’s been so cool seeing how much love people have for this record,” Kylie shared. “I feel like it’s bonded me and my fans even more, and they’re really starting to see me as an artist, outside of Descendants. ‘Boy for a Day’ feels like the entryway into a whole new era for me.”
