Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election to become the 47th President of the United States of America.

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, who endorsed Harris for president, reacted to the election in an Instagram post on Wednesday morning.

James posted a picture of himself holding and kissing his daughter, Zhuri, and spoke to her in the caption.

"Heavy on my heart and mind this a.m. my princess!!" LeBron James wrote in the caption. "Promise to protect you with everything I have and more!! We don't need their help!"

James endorsed Harris for president last week in a post on X (formerly Twitter). James wrote, "What are we even talking about here?? When I think about my kids and my family and how they will grow up, the choice is clear to me. VOTE KAMALA HARRIS!!!"

Trump was officially named the president-elect after securing 277 electoral votes to Harris' 224. Trump also won the popular vote, with 51 percent of the vote going towards him at the time of this writing.

Trump served his first term as the President of the United States from 2016-20 when he beat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election. Trump then ran again in 2020, but lost to Joe Biden, who will now finish out his term before Trump takes over.

James has never been shy about sharing his political views, which is why it was no surprise when he endorsed a presidential candidate in this cycle. He also has had numerous issues with Trump over the last decade.

In 2017, James called Trump a "bum" after he criticized Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors for being hesitant to go to the White House after winning the NBA championship.

"U bum (Stephen Curry) already said he ain't going! So therefore ain't no invite," James wrote in a post on X (then Twitter) in 2017. "Going to White House was a great honor until you showed up!"

James also went at Trump after he criticized NBA players for kneeling during the U.S. national anthem and calling it "disgraceful." Trump said he turned off the game when he saw the protests. James didn't exactly care.

"I really don't think the basketball community are sad about losing his viewership," LeBron James said at the time.

On the flip side, Trump has criticized James, insulting his intelligence in 2018 and saying, "I like Mike!" in a social media post in reference to Michael Jordan.

Trump will be sworn into office on Jan. 20, 2025.
