Rico Carty was one of Major League Baseball's first great Dominican-born stars. He helped put his home town of San Pedro de Macoris on the map as a baseball hotbed with a 15-year career from 1963-79.
Carty achieved his greatest fame with the Milwaukee and Atlanta Braves, culminating in a National League All-Star Game appearance and batting title in 1970. Even in his later years, he was fondly remembered by Braves fans, and inducted into the team's Hall of Fame in 2023.
Carty died Saturday at age 85, according to multiple reports.
