Legendary chef Ken Hom has revealed that ducks hate him.
He said they give him evil looks when they see him. The 75-year-old, who shot to fame in BBC show Ken Hom’s Chinese Cookery in 1984 - which was watched by millions - said whenever he sees a duck in the wild, it "looks at him" in a certain way.
Ken, awarded an OBE in 2009, and a CBE in 2022, said he must have cooked "several thousand" of the birds for his famous Peking duck dish.
The famous dish, which has been make in China for centuries, is often eaten with spring onions, cucumber and pancakes and here in the UK is known as crispy aromatic duck.
Ken said: “Ducks don’t like me when they look at me.
“I’ve cooked countless peking ducks, probably several thousand.
“On my first TV series we did peking duck in the first programme and there was a run on ducks the next day in all the supermarkets.”
“I’m their nemesis,” he said.
Ken also revealed that he loves a chippy dinner, adding: “Here in London now, I’m hankering for fish and chips, which I discovered when I first came as a very poor student with a rucksack.”
