Heartbreaking new footage has shown Liam Payne’s dad, Geoff, looking over the balcony which he fell from.

The clip looks as though a drone captured it and shows the distraught father of the One Direction star, who died last Wednesday, being comforted as he took in the third-floor drop which killed his son.

Geoff Payne arrived in Argentina on Friday to repatriate the body and went to see the site of the tragedy at the hotel in Buenos Aires.

It’s been reported that Paul Higgins, the head of security for the famous boyband, accompanied Geoff to offer him support and security.

Escorted by the City Police, Mr Payne arrived in a black Toyota van.

As he exited the vehicle, fans began shouting messages of encouragement, and some were pushing and shoving between the musician's fans and security personnel.

To prevent the media from snatching images of Mr Payne, fans raised their arms to cover the inside of Hotel CasaSur. It’s been reported that Liam’s family also retrieved his belongings in his room.

The body of the singer is expected to be flown back to the UK this week "back where he belongs" with his family.

Officials have not yet released his body pending the final pathology tests. However, authorities anticipate that the results will be ready this week and have not dismissed the immediate availability of the findings.

A source revealed: "Liam's loved ones just want him home, back where he belongs among his family.

“As they await the pathologist to finish their tests, behind the scenes, they have been tackling the logistics about how best to get his body back to the UK.

"There are no direct commercial flights between Buenos Aires and London, but naturally, they want the flight to have the least stops and interruptions possible. But Geoff is determined to accompany his son home."

While chartering a private jet is an option, the challenge remains that few aircraft can cover the 6,915-mile distance without refuelling.

Meanwhile, thousands of fans across the globe have come together to mourn the loss of the star.

Liam tragically died after plummeting from his third-floor suite at the CasaSur Hotel in Palmero, Buenos Aires. Prior to his fatal fall last Wednesday, he was observed behaving unusually in the lobby by other guests.

Following his fall, police discovered the prescription drug clonazepam, energy supplements and various over-the-counter medications strewn across the suite, along with "various items broken."
