Liam Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy is said to have made him make a decision about their romance

Liam Payne's girlfriend demanded he chose her – or the drugs before his death.

The couple had been holidaying in Argentina in the days leading up to Liam's death last month as he had to apply to renew his visa for America, where he was planning to live with the former waitress. Payne's visa had expired due to his history of drug use and rehab stints, meaning he had to undergo medical examinations and drug tests before being given the all clear.

Liam tragically fell to his death aged 31 on October 16, falling from the balcony of his third floor hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The star died after suffering multiple traumas leading to an "internal and external haemorrhage". Reports claim that Kate has opened up about her relationship with Liam and apparently made him make a decision.

It was believed that Liam had been clean from drugs prior to his drug tests, which he ultimately passed and was about to be granted a visa again. However, he is said to have fallen back into taking narcotics and drinking alcohol shortly after undergoing the relevant tests.

Kate Cassidy has allegedly opened up to friends about her relationship with Liam Payne

Speaking to the New York Post, a source said: "His drug use was causing a lot of drama. So she gave him an ultimatum: her or the drugs. He chose the drugs, so she had no choice but to remove herself from the situation. She thought she was doing tough love." Kate and Liam had originally planned to stay in the Latin American country for just five days – which later turned into two weeks, something she disagreed with.

She took to social media to explain to fans that she "hated" staying in one place for a long period of time and needed to return to their home in Florida. The source continued claiming that Kate has told friends she was a "hostage situation" as their holiday continued to extend. "It was becoming very unhealthy for everyone. She hoped he would follow her back to Miami," the source added.

Two days after Liam's heartbreaking death, Kate took to social media to share a moving tribute to her late partner. The social media influencer shared the love she had for her late boyfriend and admits she's "at a loss". Taking to Instagram, she said: "Thank you for all of the kind words and love that has been sent my way. I have been at a complete loss. Nothing about the past few days have felt real. I ask and pray that you'll give me the grace and space to navigate this in private. Liam, my angel. You are everything. I want you to know I loved you unconditionally and completely. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life. I love you Liam."

Liam and Kate met in a scenario straight out of a rom-com, when the then-ordinary waitress served the megastar at a bar in Charleston, South Carolina, in 2022. For Liam, the attraction was immediate, and he asked for her number straight away. However, their relationship almost didn't take off. Kate gave Liam her phone number and forgot to add +1 to her area code, due to having an American number.

The claims surrounding Kate come after an Argentinian waiter who claims to have struck up a friendship with Liam opened up about their encounters. Braian Nahuel Paiz, 24, had spoken out to protest his innocence as he made a number of claims about his relationship with the singer and what they did days before Liam's tragic death.

He is accused of being the "dealer" who handed drugs to Liam but denies all allegations. Braian claims to have had two hotel meetings with Liam and insists he didn't supply drugs and didn't accept any money from Payne, who was "used" to handing over money. It's claimed that the pair first met one another on October 2 at another hotel where Liam had been staying before moving to the swanky CasurSur Palermo.

Braian later claimed that he and Liam spent the night together at the CasaSur Palermo during another encounter on October 13. Speaking on Argentinian TV to journalist Guillermo Panizza over the weekend, he said: "I never supplied Liam with drugs. Liam's first contact with me was at my place of work. We swapped details and saw each other later that night. It was all normal. He came down from his hotel room to fetch me because I had got lost."

Naming the hotel as the "Hyatt in Palermo", he added: "We got together there and he showed me some of the music he was going to bring out. I've heard people saying he was taking drugs but the truth is that when he got to the restaurant where I was working he was already under the effects of drugs and he didn't actually eat anything. There was a moment when he approached me and asked me for my contact details. I gave him an Instagram and afterwards he sent me messages because he wanted to take drugs although he had already consumed narcotics. It was October 2. While I was in his room we had some whisky shots."

Continuing, he claimed: "Our second hotel meeting was on the night of Sunday October 13. We spent the night together, we consumed drugs because the truth is that something intimate happened. I stayed there all night. I consumed marijuana and he consumed cocaine, the cocaine that's in all the photos that came out after his death. He was separating it and cleaning it before smoking it. I didn't say anything to him about it because he seemed normal to me."

Liam is said to have been "really sweet" and checked whether Braian was "ok". He added that he still has the messages from Payne and hasn't erased any. Liam had offered him a parting gift of a t-shirt and grey jogging bottoms as a memory of their time together, which he chose to leave in Liam's room. He further claimed that Liam travelled to his residence to meet a friend of his who was a big One Direction fan but Liam had insisted that the pair returned to his hotel room, which he declined as he was expected at work.
