Four days after Liam Payne’s death, the late singer’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, was photographed in public. The influencer stepped out in Florida on Sunday, October 20, to visit a pet store with two friends and her dog.
Kate, 25, kept it low key for the outing, wearing a pair of gray sweatpants, an oversized white T-shirt and sandals. She was makeup-free with her blonde hair down while running her errands.
Liam, who was 31 years old when he died on October 16, had been dating Kate for nearly two years at the time of his death. She was with him in Argentina just two days before he jumped to his death from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires. However, Kate left South America on October 14 after being there for more than two weeks.
“I was just like, ‘I need to go home,’” she said in a TikTok video, which she posted on the day of her departure. She also added that the couple was only planning on staying in Argentina for “five days,” but wound up extending their trip to last much longer. They arrived at the end of September and attended Niall Horan’s concert on October 2 before turning the trip into a lengthier vacation.
“Soooo happpii to b back in sunshine state,” Kate captioned her TikTok video. However, Liam decided to stay in Argentina after his girlfriend went home. He died two days later after suffering injuries that were “incompatible with life” following the fall, according to authorities.
On October 18, Kate paid tribute to Liam with a statement on her Instagram Story. “Thank you for all of the kind words and love that has been sent my way,” she wrote. “I have been at a complete loss. Nothing about the past few days have felt real. I ask and pray that you’ll give me the grace and space to navigate this in private.”
She concluded, “Liam, my angel. You are everything. I want you to know I love you unconditionally and completely. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life. I love you Liam.”
Prior to Liam’s death, police received a phone call from a hotel manager who said there was an “aggressive man possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol” at the establishment. In a 911 call, the staff member told officials, “When [the guest] is conscious he breaks … he is breaking the whole room. Well, we need you to send someone, please.” However, they did not identify the guest in the audio recording. “The guest is in a room that has a balcony and, well, we are a little afraid that he might do something life-threatening,” the 911 caller added.
Tributes came pouring in from loved ones, including Liam’s former One Direction bandmates. “We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing,” Louis Tomlinson, Niall, 31, Harry Styles and Zayn Malik said in a joint statement. “In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say.”
They added, “But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process this loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam.”
