An eerie tweet Liam Payne posted in 2010 has gone viral following his funeral earlier this week.
The late One Direction star was seemingly contemplating the aftermath of his death in 2010 as he wrote, “If I died would you come to ma funeral…?”
Liam, who died at age 31, posted the message via X (which was known as Twitter at the time,) and fans mourned his passing in the comments.
One person shared a collage of Liam’s fellow 1D stars Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik attending the funeral and wrote, “They did [crying emoji].”
Another X user said they would “sell their soul to bring” Liam back, while a third person shared more photos of the boy banders laying their friend to rest and added, “They were there, Payno.”
Liam died on October 16 after he fell from a third story balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The “What Makes You Beautiful” singer had traveled to South America on September 30 with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy. The two went to see Niall, 31, perform. Kate, 25, revealed that they had initially only planned to stay for a few days. However, the trip ended up lasting over two weeks and Kate ultimately left just two days before Liam’s death.
“I was just like, I need to go home,” Kate said in a travel vlog she shared with fans via TikTok on October 14.
An employee of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel had placed a call to 911 and reported an “aggressive man possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” which is what prompted authorities to arrive at the scene. An audio clip of the 911 call was obtained by Telemundo and a member of the hotel staff could be heard telling the dispatcher that a guest had “overindulged on drugs and alcohol.”
“When he is conscious he breaks, he is breaking the whole room. Well, we need you to send someone, please,” the employee said. “The guest is in a room that has a balcony and, well, we are a little afraid that he might do something life-threatening.”
When police arrived at the scene at a little after 5 p.m., Liam was already dead.
“There was no possibility of resuscitating him,” authorities said at the time. “He had extremely severe injuries that were incompatible with life due to the fall.”
Approximately two weeks after his death, it was announced that Liam’s body could be transported back to England for his funeral.
“All the documents are ready for the former One Direction singer to return to his homeland so a funeral can take place there next week,” Argentinian outlet daily La Nacion reported on November 3. “When [Liam’s father] Geoff Payne reached Argentina on October 18 he was told the repatriation process could take between four and five days, but because of the circumstances surrounding his son’s death things took longer than expected.”
Liam was laid to rest in a private ceremony on Wednesday, November 20. Along with the remaining members of One Direction, Girls Aloud singers Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh, James Corden, Simon Cowell and more attended the funeral to say their goodbyes.
