Following his tragic death, Liam Payne‘s sisters have started to post heart-wrenching tributes in his honor.
The late singer grew up in Wolverhampton with older sisters Ruth Gibbins and Nicola Payne. Both siblings proudly and regularly supported Liam at One Direction shows from 2010 when he rose to fame on The X Factor to the band’s hiatus in 2015.
The former One Direction singer died on Wednesday, Oct. 16, after he fell three stories from his hotel balcony in CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Argentina. The prosecutor’s office stated that Liam died from “polytrauma and internal and external bleeding,” noting that “a series of substances were seized from the musician’s room, which would prove a previous situation of alcohol and drugs consumption.”
Following his death, both of Liam’s sisters have posted statements on their Instagram pages. Read them below:
Ruth Gibbins’ Tribute for Liam Payne
Taking to Instagram on Saturday, October 19, Ruth shared a handful of family photos from her personal collection, included a photo from her wedding day with the former X Factor contestant in a blue suit, as well as a sweet moment between Liam and Ruth’s son Ashton.
In her written message, the late boyband star’s sister called him her “best friend,” and apologized for not being able to “save” the singer.
“My brain is struggling to catch up with what’s happening and I don’t understand where you’ve gone,” she wrote.
“What I love most about you is your ability to make me laugh, I never chuckle as much as I do when I’m with you with anyone else.
“I’m always in awe of your talent, it should be illegal to be so talented and just have the ability to not only be good at things but be bloody great at everything you attempt, without even knowing you’re absolutely smashing it each time.”

Nicola Payne’s Tribute to Liam Payne
On Monday, Oct. 21, Liam’s oldest sister Nicola Payne posted on Instagram in the aftermath of Liam’s death and paid tribute to the late pop star, while also revealing her initial reaction to the horrific news.
As Nicola wrote, she learned of her brother’s passing through a news notification on her phone, leading her to hope that the report was “untrue.”
She continued, “I have spent days hoping that it was a mistake and somebody got it wrong. You were truly too good for this earth, you are an angel who just lived for making people smile and happy. You have always shown kindness to everyone you met and it shows with just how many people have confirmed what we always knew!”
Nicola went on to note that Liam always led his life “with a motto of why bother doing something unless you are brilliant at it, and Liam you were certainly brilliant at everything you did!!” She added: “Unfortunately this cruel world is always [too] quick to judge someone from a few 5 second clips, they then think it entitles them to be able to speak like they know you. We knew you and we loved you.”
Liam’s oldest sister concluded her tribute by stating she hopes that Liam has “finally found peace up there and that you’ll continue to look after us all as well as you have done in life,” and promised to “make sure Bear knows about his daddy and how much you loved him.” (Liam shared his 7-year-old son with ex Cheryl Cole.)
