Lily Allen has spoken frankly about her experiences of being lonely following her reported split from David Harbour. Lily, 39, was discussing loneliness, her mental health, and texting friends on the Miss Me? podcast she co-hosts with her close friend Miquita Oliver.

Addressing her mental wellbeing, the singer, 39, became noticeably more emotional as she revealed why she doesn’t reach out to friends when she’s feeling low.

What’s more, she said her reluctance to text friends for support was a legacy of difficult times from the height of her fame in the early 2000s. Lily hinted that, at the time, when she told friends something in confidence, she would often find her story became public knowledge just days later.

It was these two factors, admitted Lily, that made opening up more difficult. In response, co-host Miquita told Lily that by sharing her anxieties and fears with her friends, she was doing nothing wrong at all.

Lily explained: “When I’m feeling lonely I cannot do the text. I just feel like when I’m feeling low and lonely, I feel like a burden. I don’t want to offload my s*** onto other people. I feel like ‘It’s ok, you can handle this, you can do this, you’ll get through this and then you’ll be back, and then you’ll be fun Lily again’."

The star then became tearful as she admitted: “I think, also, there is, like, trauma from the noughties in that, when things were bad, or I felt guilt or shame around things that I didn’t want to tell people because I didn’t want it to end up in the papers…I feel like I can’t be honest about what’s going on in my life sometimes.”

While concluding the episode of the podcast, Lily claimed to Miquita that she was "only crying because I'm jet lagged", to which her friend responded by urging the Smile hitmaker to catch up on some sleep.

Lily’s frank comments come after it was alleged that her husband David Harbour, 49, had been caught using a celebrity dating app.

David and Lily first met on the app, known as Raya, in 2019 before marrying around a year later in 2020. Lily is said to have set up a pretend profile to investigate, after getting suspicious that the Stranger Things actor may have returned to the app, and discovered he had been active for over a month, reported LBC.

Discussing Lily’s discovery, a source claimed to the Mail on Sunday: "Lily only rejoined Raya to try to figure out whether he was seeing someone. Lily has never even looked at anyone since she met David. She is devastated. He broke up with Lily a month ago. He was meant to be on holiday with her in Kenya over Christmas.”

Raya is an exclusive platform with less than 100,000 users, 100,000 people on its waiting list, and only accepts around eight percent of applicants.
