Lily Allen insists she’s not going to rehab after ‘pain’ from David Harbour split

Lily Allen is ‘going away’ for a few weeks after revealing she is ‘not in a good place’ following rumoured David Harbour break-up.

The singer, 39, has reportedly split from the Stranger Things star, 49, after she discovered he was allegedly using the celebrity dating app Raya in secret.

The Smile hitmaker married David in 2020, and also shares two daughters, Marnie, 12, and Ethel, 11, with her ex-husband Sam Cooper.

Now, she is planning to take a three-week break from her BBC Sounds Miss Me? podcast with friend and presenter Miquita Oliver, as she navigates this ‘tough’ period.

In a recent episode, she shared that she was ‘spiralling’ and could only concentrate on the ‘pain’ that she was feeling.

‘I’m finding it hard to be interested in anything, I’m really not in a good place,’ she told listeners.

‘I know I’ve been talking about it for months but I’ve been spiralling and spiralling. It’s got out of control, I’ve tried.

‘I came to the Miss Me? Christmas lunch and had a panic attack and had to go home and the I went to see something at the theatre the other night with my friends and I had to leave at half time.

‘I can’t concentrate on anything except the pain I’m going through. It’s really hard.’

She then explained that although she would be taking a step back, she wanted to reassure listeners that she wasn’t going to ‘drug rehab’ but rather a retreat that would take away her phone.

The stage star continued: ‘There will be speculation because of the amount of time I’m going to be taking away that I’m going to drug rehab – I’ve not, I’ve not relapsed.

‘I have seen some horrible blind items on the internet that I was found in a crack den by my husband being surrounded by men. I don’t know who is spreading these vicious rumours but it’s not true.

‘It all comes back to the phones. They aren’t doing us any good. They certainly aren’t doing me any good at the moment. I really don’t like my phone.

‘I’m as guilty of that as anyone else, what I’m very excited about where I’m going over the next few weeks is that I’m not allowed my phone.’

Lily has been vocal about her past with addiction, including in her 2018 memoir. In 2021, she spoke more about her addiction to the prescription drug Adderall which she took in 2014 to lose weight while supporting Miley Cyrus on tour.

‘I got addicted to this drug because it made me invincible and I could work really long hours and be all the people I was required to be,’ she said at the time, per BBC.

Elsewhere in the episode, Lily reflected on the difficulties of raising children through tough times.

‘When things in life are going well and you’re coping it’s really nice to have the kids around they’re a joy.

‘One of the main sources of joy in one’s life. But when things are not going so well and life is tough, as it is for many people for all manner of reasons, having to hold things together is really hard,’ she said.

There have been reports of trouble between the couple for over a year. David quashed breakup rumours at the end of 2023 by saying their marriage was ‘ultimately… very good’ despite challenges such as the Hollywood strikes.

But last month sources claimed Lily was in ‘agony’ after setting up her own profile on Raya to track down the women her husband might have allegedly been talking to.

The source continued to Mail On Sunday: ‘Lily has never even looked at anyone since she met David. She is devastated. He broke up with Lily a month ago. He was meant to be on holiday with her in Kenya over Christmas.’

Earlier this week, Lily opened up about her experience of loneliness in hard times on the podcast, perhaps referring to her first marriage breakdown.

‘I just feel like when I’m feeling low and lonely, I feel like a burden. I don’t want to offload my s**t onto other people.

‘I feel like, “It’s OK, you can handle this, you can do this, you’ll get through this and then you’ll be back, and then you’ll be fun Lily again”,’ she said.

And although neither Lily and David have explicitly confirmed the breakup, the mum-of-two did allude to ‘solo’Christmas plans as she continued to open up about the pain she is currently experience.
