Lyle Menendez is officially a single man — er, at least, he’s no longer with his wife of the last two decades.
The 56-year-old, who of course has been serving a life sentence in a southern California prison alongside his brother Erik Menendez after being found guilty of the 1989 murders of their parents, is splitting up from longtime wife Rebecca Sneed. As you may recall, Sneed had been married to Lyle for the last 21 years while he’s been serving his time in prison after his conviction more than three decades ago.
However, just last week, we reported on the arrival on the proverbial scene of an English college student named Milly Bucksey. Per insider reports, the 21-year-old is said to be involved romantically with Lyle — even going so far as to travel thousands of miles from her home in England to visit him at a prison outside San Diego. And now, Sneed has had enough.

In a post published on her official Facebook page that was later verified by the brothers’ attorney to NBC News, Sneed wrote this about separating from Lyle — and contends their rift has been a while in the making:
“Lyle and I have been separated for a while now but remain best friends and family. I continue to run his Facebook pages, with input from him, and I am forever committed to the enduring fight for Lyle and Erik’s freedom, as has been so evident over the years.”
Then, she continued:
“I’ll continue to update you all on the progress of the case because I believe we all have the common goal of seeing the guys walk free! I will never stop fighting for them.”
OK, so, that’s all well and good. But!!! Sneed couldn’t leave the situation alone without adding this one extremely important disclaimer to the end of her statement, as well:
“This is NOT a cheating scandal.”
Hmmm…
So were they separated a while ago, and the young college student swooped in during the aftermath of their split? Is that how it happened — or at least what Rebecca wants the world to know now?! The timing of her announcement coming days after Bucksey’s identity was revealed to the world is definitely interesting…
Per E! News, neither reps for Lyle nor Rebecca have gotten back to them regarding comment about the separation — and how it may or may not be tied to Bucksey. Regardless, what a twist! Reactions, y’all?? Share ’em (below)…
