Rapper Mad Skillz has returned with his yearly round-up song for 2024.
Skillz’s return with “2024 Rap Up” comes out of the blue because he retired in 2021. He’d previously been dropping yearly roundups for 20 years.
But with a year as wild as this one, it’s no surprise he’d have to pop back up and give us his take on everything that happened.
From Snoop Dogg earning millions with his Olympic coverage to Shannon Sharpe accidentally recording himself diving into someone’s guts on Instagram, it’s all here — in Skillz’s signature hilarious fashion.
The track also covers that his latest album, The 7 Number Ones, is nominated for a Grammy. Speaking to 8News recently about the honor, he opened up about the project and how he feels to be nominated.
“When something happens for the first time, it’s a memory that stays with you, good or bad,” said Skillz. “I wanted to talk about seven things that happened in my life. They changed the trajectory of my life.”
“I share this nomination with five other creators in the city who are amazing artists in their own right,” Skill continued. “I’m probably more happy for them than I am with myself. Participating in a Grammy album is huge. And it’s no better than to do it with your homies and your friends from your hometown.”
Back in 2018, Skillz competed with Uncle Murda over yearly roundup songs that erupted into an open beef. That year, Skillz released the song (“Murda Gram (Uncle Murda Diss)” which attacked the rapper for copying his concept.
