The U.S. Capitol Police on Wednesday said they arrested a man who tried to bring a machete and three knives into the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center.
According to a message posted on the U.S. Capitol Police's X (formerly Twitter) account, officers stopped the man and took him into custody at just after 2:00 p.m. local time.
"Three knives were also found in the bag, along with the machete," the U.S. Capitol Police X post said. "Security screening was temporarily stopped at the north side of the Capitol Visitor Center while we investigated."
The messaged added: "The man is being arrested for multiple charges of Carrying a Dangerous Weapon."
This is a developing story and will be updated when more information becomes available.
