America's favorite pizza has been revealed, state-by-state.
According to a TalkerResearch survey of 5,000 people across all 50 states in the U.S., Iowans are the ultimate pizza fans, with inhabitants of the Hawkeye State eating the Italian staple five times a month.
This is followed by North Dakota, who munch down on a slice on average 4.9 times a month, and Alaska at 4.7 times.
But when it comes to favorite toppings, the country is pretty split—except for Massachusetts, the only state to place veggie pizza at its number one spot.
According to the survey, commissioned by Tabasco, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Kansas, Montana and Oklahoma favored the Supreme pizza above all else. The Supreme generally includes a mix of meat and vegetables, catering to a balanced diet.
The iconic pepperoni pizza was favored by Alaska, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Maryland, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont and Virginia.
Carnivores backed the Meat Lover's pizza, which generally includes multiple types of meats on a bed of classic mozzarella cheese. The states most fond of the Meat Lover's were found to be Arizona, Idaho, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming,
Some states couldn't decide between two favorites: Iowa was evenly split between Supreme and Meat Lover's, and both North Dakota and South Dakota between Supreme and Pepperoni.
Kate Neuhaus, director of global marketing communications at McIlhenny Company, producer of Tabasco, said the results were of "no surprise to us that Americans love pizza and eat it multiple times a month.
"Whether you're a fan of Hawaiian or Meat Lover's, New York style or Chicago deep dish, a dash of hot sauce is the best way to make your pizza more exciting."
There are over 74,000 pizza restaurants in the U.S., with the market size reaching over $50.1 billion.
The TalkerResearch survey also revealed the unique habits of certain states, with 40 percent of participants from Georgia admitting they eat the crust first, and 53 percent of those from Illinois using a knife and fork, rather than their hands, to tuck into their pizza.
Some 58 percent of respondents from New Mexico and Hawaii preferred to add spice to their pizza, while Michigan and South Carolina were the least likely to do so, at just 31 percent.
Talker Research surveyed 5,000 Americans (state-by-state); the survey was commissioned by Tabasco and administered and conducted online by Talker Research between Dec. 23 to Dec. 31, 2024.
