Autumn trends are coming thick and fast and it seems even our jeans have been given a seasonal makeover. Although wide leg jeans are still one of the top trending styles, there’s a new denim silhouette hitting the shelves, and its already been spotted on celebs like Trinny Woodall and Zara McDermott.
Barrel leg jeans have become the newest style to take over our wardrobes, and despite their exaggerated shape, they’re actually universally flattering. If you’re looking for a pair to add to your autumn outfits, Marks and Spencer’s latest launch, the Mid Rise Relaxed Horseshoe Jeans, £39.50, are the perfect pick.

The M&S jeans may be touted as ‘horseshoe’ shape, but they’re the perfect example of a barrel leg cut. Fitted around the hips and upper thighs, they flare out just above the knee before tapering back into a more narrow cuff around the ankle, giving them their rounded barrel-like namesake.
They have a mid-rise waistband to create an in-proportion silhouette, and they have a touch of stretch that makes them super comfortable to wear all day long. Although the exaggerated shape may look a little avant guarde for day-to-day wear, shoppers have been praising how flattering they are.
“Genuinely surprised! Lovely style and fit. Very flattering,” wrote one, whilst another added: “Love these horseshoe jeans, such a great style and fit. Fabulous price too! Might just send for the black pair!”

However a fourth did add: “I thought I’d give these a try as I missed out on the Sienna Miller jeans. They are pretty good, a little on the large side but pleasantly so, have received compliments. The only thing I’m not keen on is the waistband is a bit flimsy so they look better with a belt. The 12 long length are good on my 5’10 frame.”
The jeans come in sizes 6-24, and give you the choice of petite, regular or tall leg lengths so you can get the right fit, which is particularly important on a more statement silhouette like this. They also come in two colours, medium blue and black, with plenty of reviewers sharing that they ended up buying both colours because they loved the fit so much.
If you want even more choice of colours, H&M’s Barrel High Jeans, £37.99, come in eight different colours, including several shades of blue as well as cream and black. They also have a high-waisted fit, which many people prefer to a mid or low rise.
Meanwhile at Next you can get the Authentic Barrel Hourglass Jeans for £36, which come in regular and long leg lengths. They’ve also been specially designed for an hourglass shape and made from a stretchy denim that makes them comfortable and figure-flattering.
