Martha Stewart's ex-husband's new wife is unhappy with the 83-year-old lifestyle guru's comments about her man.
Stewart's no-holds-barred documentary, Martha, was released on Netflix last week — during which the Martha Stewart Living founder dropped bombshell after bombshell, including multiple shocking claims about her marriage to ex-husband Andrew Stewart. (Martha and Andrew were married from 1961 to 1990 and share a daughter, Alexis, 59.)
But Andrew's current wife, Shyla Nelson Stewart, didn't wait for the release of the documentary to defend her husband, speaking out — in a newly resurfaced Facebook post — against Martha's allegations after the trailer dropped in early October.
In the trailer, the entrepreneur offered some "advice" to girls saying, "If you're married and your husband starts to cheat on you, he's a piece of s**t. Get out of that marriage." Martha, for her part, also admitted to infidelity.
Shyla began her Facebook post by telling people this would be the only "public comment on this subject," before praising Andy and describing their tight bond and the "beautiful" life they have built together.
"As some of you know, my husband is Andrew Stewart - brilliant publisher, avocational naturalist and nature photographer, and one of the gentlest, most soft-spoken, kind-hearted men I've ever known," Shyla wrote. "No one was more surprised than we when, after being introduced as colleagues almost 12 years ago, our connection blossomed into a deep and everlasting love. With our shared devotion to the Earth and to our families at the center, Andy and I have built a life of beauty, meaning, productivity, and purpose, infused with true love, which we share as fully as we can with our beautiful blended family of 5 amazing adult children, our 3 adorable grandchildren, our extended family, and many cherished friends."
After lamenting about the happy times, Shyla explained that her husband was in a toxic — and "abusive" — relationship with the lifestyle maven.
"Prior to this happy chapter of his life, Andy had some dark ones, including a painful and abusive marriage to Martha (as in, Martha Stewart), which ended almost 40 years ago," she penned.
Shyla expressed frustration about how the New York Times best-selling author discussed Andy and how she negatively framed him.
"While Andy quietly moved on and forward with his life, it appears that Martha continues to publicly relitigate the marriage, including comments in a sensationalized trailer for an upcoming documentary on Netflix," she wrote. "The juxtaposition of Andy's early life with the joy-filled, purpose-led, loving marriage we live today is striking. Every day, we openly express our gratitude for our love and for our life together."
Shyla ended her post by saying she and Andy wish everyone, including Martha, could experience the joy of love.
