Identity of Piranha revealed on The Masked Singer

The Masked Singer hit an awkward moment after a celebrity refused to reveal their identity.

ITV hit show The Masked Singer has been hitting the airwaves since earlier this month, with fans already being drawn in, wondering who could be behind the mask. Some fans are already playing detective, believing they have already worked out some of the celebrities taking part in the show.

But according to reports, filming hit a snag when one of the stars of the show was voted out, as per the rules of the competition. The star was seemingly so unhappy at being given the chop from the show that they stormed off the set of the programme.

The star was then brought back to the stage, but reportedly refused to have the mask taken off them, therefore concealing their identity even further. The dramatic moment will air in tomorrow's instalment of the hit ITV show (January 11).

Saturday's episode will see Pufferfish, Toad in the Hole, Bear, Bush and Wolf all take to the stage to try and secure their place in the competition. While it has not been revealed who the star was when the mask came off, it was reportedly a "world-renowned star".

Speaking to The Sun, one audience member who had been on the set of the show when the moment occurred said: "It was absolutely bonkers. Usually the celeb with the lowest votes takes off their mask and then chats to the panel and sings again.

"But instead this character turned around and shuffled off stage, which was hilarious in their costume obviously — but we were all stunned," the insider added. "We knew something was going on because we saw lots of to-ing and fro-ing with crew before the person eventually came back on stage."

The source went on to say that due to their unorthodox reaction to being voted off, fans were "even more intrigued" to discover who it was behind the outrageous outfit. Taking their theories online, several fans are convinced that the A-lister could be Sir Patrick Stewart, Jamie Lynn Spears or Michael Sheen, to name just a few.

No celebrity had ever reacted poorly to being voted off the stage in the British show's history, which has included big names including Cee Lo Green, Michelle Williams and Ne-Yo grace its stage. Insiders close to the show said that bosses appealed to the diva to finish the show, all while host Joel Dommett, 39, tried to keep the audience entertained.

The insider went on to say that: "The celebrity was basically gutted and upset to be leaving the competition so soon." Whoever the celebrity is, however, will have their identity revealed during Saturday night's show in the next thrilling instalment.

The Masked Singer airs every Saturday on ITV1 and ITVX.
