Former Representative Matt Gaetz on Friday said he will not be rejoining Congress in 2025.
Gaetz, a Florida Republican, resigned from the House earlier this month after President-elect Donald Trump nominated him to lead the U.S. Department of Justice. On Thursday, he announced he was withdrawing his name from consideration to serve as attorney general because he felt his confirmation would "unfairly" become a "distraction" for Trump's transition team.
In a new interview with Charlie Kirk, Gaetz said he does not "intend to join the 119th Congress."
"I'm still going to be in the fight, but it's going to be from a new perch," he said.
This is a developing story and will be updated when more information becomes available.
