Former first lady Melania Trump promised to safeguard "freedom" in her husband and predicted Americans would come together in the wake of President-elect Donald Trump's election victory.
Trump won the presidency early Wednesday morning, taking a majority of the swing states, and is headed for a popular vote win. Republicans have seized on the massive support to back up Trump's plans for the future and the former president will have control of the Senate and potentially the House of Representatives to help advance his agenda.
Melania posted on X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday evening that the majority of Americans "have entrusted us with this important responsibility."
"We will safeguard the heart of our republic – freedom. I anticipate the citizens of our nation rejoining in commitment to each other and rising above ideology for the sake of individual liberty, economic prosperity, and security," Melania wrote.
