Mets' Pete Alonso Predicted To Land Monumental $93.3 Million Mega-Contract

New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso is a free agent and he's likely to land a massive contract in free agency, but it won't be one as big as he once hoped.

Heading into the winter, Alonso reportedly wanted a deal close to $200 million, but the rumors now indicate his deal will be a short-term deal worth around $100 million instead of the massive $200 million deal he was looking for.

Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic recently predicted Alonso to sign a three-year, $93.3 million contract this winter.

"Here's a prediction on Alonso's contract if the Mets take him up on Boras' proposal for a three-year deal with opt-outs, an offer confirmed by The Athletic's Will Sammon: Three years, $93.3 million, with deferrals that will lower the deal's present-day value," Rosenthal and Sammon wrote. "Why $93.3 million? Because a $31.1 million average annual value would set a record for a first baseman, beating Miguel Cabrera's $31 million AAV in his eight-year, $248 million extension with the Detroit Tigers that ran from 2016 to '23, his ages 33 to 40 seasons."

The teams involved in the Alonso sweepstakes include the Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners, San Francisco Giants, the Mets, and a few others.

All in all, it will likely be the Mets that land Alonso. Now, the issue is how much money and how many years. A deal in the ballpark of $93.3 million would make sense, especially to eclipse the average annual value record for a first baseman.
