Congratulations are in order for Georgia ‘Toff’ Toffolo, after she announced her engagement to BrewDog founder James Watt on Instagram. The former Made in Chelsea star shared a series of photos of her and James celebrating, with Toff wearing a red maxi dress for the occasion.

Toff’s stunning sheer dress (she is in Greece, after all) hails from Worme, with the Chiffon Collum Drape Maxi Gown setting you back £350 if you want to copy her exact look. However, if you’re inspired by Toff’s daring outfit but don’t want to break the bank – or bare as much skin – I managed to track down a fantastic alternative from COS, which will save you more than £200.

The Pleated Racer-Neck Maxi Dress costs £115 and has a very similar design and silhouette to Toff’s see-through dress, although the COS version is opaque enough to wear even when you’re not on holiday. Coming in a matching scarlet red colour, the COS dress is expertly knitted from a cotton blend.

If red isn’t your colour you can also snap up the COS maxi dress in black. It’s available in sizes XS to large.

COS’ maxi dress also has a similar silhouette to Toff’s, with a racer neckline and sleeveless design. However rather than a straight column shape it flares out at the bottom into box pleats which gives it beautiful movement, making it perfect for both casual and formal events.

The bottom panels are where the sheerness of the dress comes into play, with subtle contrasting sheer panels that show just the right amount of skin to still be wearable for any occasion. Although it would make a gorgeous holiday dress, you could just as easily style it for autumn with a pair of knee high boots and a cosy wool pea coat or faux fur jacket to make it see you through the seasons.

For something a little more season-appropriate, Next’s Scarlet Red Long Sleeve Lace Maxi Dress, £59, is made from a vibrant red lace material with hints of sheerness throughout. However unlike Toff’s dress and the COS version, it has long sleeves which make it better suited to the chilly British weather.

It has a figure-hugging fit with split side hems, which make it comfortable and easy to walk in. Perfect for the festive period, it would be stunning paired with a pair of metallic heels and some sparkly jewellery for a Christmas party.

The Next dress is available in sizes 6 to 26, and you can choose from scarlet red, khaki green or black.
