Information on Top Gun 3 is still under lock and key — which Miles Teller can attest to.
Teller stopped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Tuesday to promote his upcoming film The Gorge, when Colbert asked him if Top Gun 3 was happening. The Top Gun: Maverick star replied: “Look, you might be shocked, but I do not green light that thing. I have nothing to do [with it].”
Teller then said he’s told Tom Cruise to give him a notice so he can prepare to be shirtless and back on the beach. “I just told Tom, I said, give me enough time, [and a] heads up for me to get in shape. It’s one month per ab. I need six months heads up.”
Colbert continued to press Teller to confirm if a third Top Gun movie was progressing. “So yes, it’s happening is what you’re saying?,” to which Teller responded, “I don’t know. There’s a lot of enthusiasm on the fans side. There’s a lot of enthusiasm on the creative side.”
It was announced in January last year that Top Gun 3 was in development with Paramount. Ehren Kruger, a co-writer for Top Gun: Maverick, was writing the script, and Joe Kosinski would come back as its director, according to sources. The hope was also to bring back Cruise, Teller and Glen Powell. However, more information is yet to be revealed.
Top Gun: Maverick, the 2022 sequel to the iconic 1980s film was a huge box office success, earning over $1 billion, and was well received with critics, as it currently holds a 96 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
