MLB announced the winners of the 2024 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards and the American League was dominated by first-time winners.
The Royals had two first-time winners, with shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. and starting pitcher Seth Lugo being awarded for their defensive efforts.
Witt was a no-brainer for the award. He registered 12 FRV and 16 OAA, per Baseball Savant. Both numbers ranked him in the top five percent of baseball. Witt will receive MVP votes for both his offensive and defensive efforts.
The Mariners also had two first-time winners. Catcher Cal Raleigh and utility man Dylan Moore were both awarded the Gold Glove.
Raleigh ranked in the top two percent of catchers in framing while also posting 14 FRV for Seattle.
The Cleveland Guardians were the final AL team that saw multiple players awarded the Gold Glove for their position. Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez and outfielder Steven Kwan both earned their third career Gold Glove awards.
Kwan posted an elite OAA, FRV, and arm value in 2024. Gimenez led all of baseball with 21 OAA, one of two players to clear the 20 OAA threshold.
Astros third baseman Alex Bregman earned his first career Gold Glove, which should be a good bargaining chip for his upcoming free agency.
Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu, Twins first baseman, and Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho round out the AL Gold Glove winners. Each of these three players are first-time winners.
