Mom Wakes Up at 5:50 a.m., Can't Believe What Toddler Is Doing in Her Bed

It's not unusual for parents to be disturbed in the early hours of the morning by their kids, but it wasn't crying or fussing that woke a mom of two.

Jessica Robertson, from North Carolina, was in bed when she was woken up by her three-year-old, Nash, eating a popsicle at 5:50 a.m.

The 30-year-old, who goes by @jessicarfamof4 on TikTok, told Newsweek that she rolled over to the sound of Nash opening the packaging.

Many TikTok users were curious to know whether the toddler closed the freezer after helping himself to the popsicle. His mom, Jessica Robertson, confirmed that he did in the comments. @jessicarfamof4

"I asked him what he was doing, [and] he said, 'eating a popsicle'. I said, 'okay, baby' and then helped him turn on a show," she said.

In the clip, a bleary-eyed Robertson shows her toddler sitting up in bed eating a popsicle and watching TV in the dark. In the text overlay, she wrote: "He just helped himself and to be honest, I don't even care."

Robertson said she thought the situation was relatable to other moms who perhaps don't have the energy to debate over the small things.

"People don't always see this side of motherhood. When moms are so sleep-deprived and tired, pick and choose your battles," she told Newsweek, adding that it's important to be able to raise a child that is comfortable to get what he needs and wants without fear.

Since it was posted on October 16, Robertson's clip has reached over 850,000 views and over 700 comments.

One mom shared that her son gathers a tube of Pringles and her phone then lays next to her until she wakes up, meanwhile another wrote: "One time my toddler brought me a frozen shrimp at 4:30am."

Many others commented on Nash's independence. One asked whether he turned the TV on by himself. "He clicked the on button but I had to do the rest," Robertson replied in the comments.

She told Newsweek that the reaction on TikTok "has been nothing but positive happy comments."

Robertson was also touched by a user who commented on how much of a great mom she was. "The fact he feels comfortable to do that with you says how much of a great mother you are," they wrote.

Other users seemingly could relate to Robertson's approach to preserving the peace in her household.

"Nothing wrong here, happy boy in a warm house enjoying his ice lolly in bed with his mummy," one wrote.
