If you are unfamiliar with Connections, it is a word game that was released in June 2023 by The New York Times.
It can be a challenging puzzle that even the most experienced players sometimes need help solving, and that's why Newsweek is here to offer a variety of clues.
According to The New York Times, Wednesday's game difficulty is 3.8 out of 5, with the website explaining: "The difficulty of each puzzle is determined by averaging the ratings provided by a panel of testers who are paid to solve each puzzle in advance to help us catch bugs, inconsistencies and other issues. A higher rating means the puzzle is more difficult."
How to Play 'Connections'
Connections tasks players with grouping 16 words into four categories based on association.
Each of the four categories is labeled with a color, which also signifies their difficulty level. Yellow is the easiest category, followed by green, blue and purple. The puzzles are rarely straightforward, using homophones and wordplay, among other techniques, to keep players challenged.
Wyna Liu, a crossword editor at The New York Times, previously offered her best tips for tackling the game in an interview with Newsweek.
"My top advice is to hold off on guessing as long as you can," Liu said. "You might spot a clear category and think you see five words that fit, but don't try guessing the four until you're sure which one doesn't belong. Jumping in too soon can cost you a turn."
Liu also warned against what she calls "rage solving," a method she confesses to finding herself using sometimes.
Newsweek has put together some advice on how to play as well as hints and the answers for Wednesday's game, so be careful scrolling down if you want to solve it by yourself.
