Morgan Freeman, 87, looks sprightly in vibrant appearance after sparking health concerns

Morgan Freeman has stepped out looking spry as he enjoyed dinner with his loved ones in California.

The 87-year-old Oscar winner, who sparked concerns last December, appeared in rude health as he strolled along the path outside Italian restaurant Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica.

He kept things casual on Sunday evening in a grey check shirt and dark trousers, with comfortable sandals.

His look was completed with a navy baseball cap to give a degree of anonymity at the celebrity haunt.

Freeman was also sporting a cream-coloured compression glove, which he uses to help alleviate the symptoms of nerve damage he sustained after being rescued from a car accident in 2008.

The Shawshank Redemption star is more often than not now seen with a glove, as he was during an appearance last month on The Jennifer Hudson Show.

He was also shown to be wearing it while filming for an upcoming project with his producing partner Lori McCreary in a photo on Instagram.

‘Just another day at the office,’ McCreary had written in the caption of a picture that showed Freeman standing in smart blue linen suit in a living room, with his hands – one gloved – clasped carefully behind his back as he faced the camera.

Freeman has been open about how his condition affects his day-to-day life, telling Esquire in a 2012 interview: ‘It’s the fibromyalgia. Up and down the arm. That’s where it gets so bad. Excruciating.’

Last December, he had concerned fans when it appeared he was walking cautiously as he carefully got into an SUV with an attendant on hand after an appearance on talk show The View.

The video ended up going viral as people speculated over his health – despite the fact the 86-year-old had executed a very smooth slide into a large vehicle and not needed any of the help on hand.

‘Morgan is in fine health,’ a rep for the star later confirmed.

While Freeman may not be spotted out and about outside of publicity appearances, the star is keeping a very busy schedule.

He was on hand in September to present his fellow acting legend, Clint Eastwood, with a special prize at the 2024 Monterey Jazz Festival.

Alongside a picture of himself in a casual suit and Eastwood in a check shirt and fleece, with McCreary in the middle, Freeman wrote on Instagram: ‘It was a great pleasure presenting my friend, Clint Eastwood, with the inaugural Clint Eastwood Award for Cultural Leadership at the @MontereyJazzFestival last weekend.

‘Clint is a true musician: pianist, composer and a jazz aficionado! We had a wonderful time listening to the incredible music of Kyle Eastwood and Mavis Staples!’

The pair have co-starred together in Eastwood’s 1992 Western Unforgiven, as well as collaborating on Million Dollar Baby in 2005 – the movie Freeman won his Academy Award for – and Invictus in 2009, where Eastwood, 94, directed Freeman as Nelson Mandela.

So far this year, Freeman has appeared in My Dead Friend Zoe and Gunner, as well as season two of Lioness opposite Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldana.

He also has a return in Now You See Me 3 as Thaddeus Bradley on the slate, which is set for release in November 2025.
