A Morrisons shopper has been left surprised by the appearance of Easter eggs in her local Morrisons

A Morrisons customer's jaw dropped after she discovered Easter eggs on sale incredibly early at her local store. Victoria Leyton, 40, walked into the supermarket post-Christmas and was shocked to find shelves already packed with Easter goodies, replacing the usual festive bargains she had hoped to snap up in the shop in Hillsborough, Sheffield.

Outraged, she lamented: "I went to my local Morrisons hoping to vacuum up post-Christmas goodies and I'm gutted to see they have all disappeared and they have already started putting the Easter eggs out. Where are my clearance Selection Boxes please?"

In an additional blow to thrifty shoppers, she noted the absence of reduced-price Christmas gifts: "You also used to be able to go in and sneakily sweep up some really cute gifts for people you weren't seeing immediately, but feels like days of the big post-holiday discounts are over; unless you want sprouts."

The hurried rush to Easter has left Victoria disillusioned: "[It is] disappointing to not be able to enjoy the last few days of little Christmas treats. Life feels quick enough without a time jump to Easter in December."

This sentiment is shared, as BirminghamLive mentioned other customers' confusion on social media regarding the premature Easter array: "Why are they showing Easter eggs? We haven't even got over December or New Year, what's the rush?"

Another disgruntled customer chimed in: "Just disgraceful, before the end of January they will be pushing barbecue food and sun loungers," reports Wales Online.

A third vented: "Corporate commercialism and greed. I guess they have to recoup the loss of giving Pixie free mince pies to gaslight shoppers."

While many customers were irate at the early stocking of Easter eggs, others defended the supermarket's decision.

One individual argued that people "like to plan ahead", while a HGV driver revealed this wasn't a new practice, stating: "I drive a HGV for a major supermarket and have delivered Easter eggs from depot to store from Boxing Day onwards for many years now."

The driver's defence was echoed by Victoria, who admitted that the strategy worked for those who like to plan well in advance.

She added: "Fair play to anyone who shops in advance to this scale but they're not even a good deal – and the unlucky recipients will need to race to finish them as they'll go off quicker."

Morrisons has confirmed that Easter eggs are now on sale in all stores.
